No, nobody stopped me from going anywhere because I was African. And no, I wasn't stopped from doing something because I was black. When I say rascism, I mean cultural racism rooted deeply in the soul of our society.
As I grew up, I always like boys that were, how do you put this, like me. They had curly hair, a skin colour almost identical to mine, and they were just as outcasted as I was. However, I soon realized that all boys had one type at that age. The stareotypical long blonde hair and blue eyed girl. It didn't hurt at that time. Mostly cause I thought it was just a phase. Soon they'd realize that there were other types of girls, hopefully.
Yet my hope was stretched thinner and thinner as now we are 16 and I still have a unrequited crush on a boy who likes what everyone else likes. A curvy, long black haired latinx. I'm coming to another realization that it may just be that black girls were never the standard. Our curly hair was very unappealing and we seemed to have an assumed attitude. We would only be loved by those from back home becasue they only know us.
I'd be fine with this concusion if this rule wasn't what applied to everything around. Girls want to be friends with those blondies and latinas. Model companies search far and wide perfect blue-eyed figure. Hell, even my teachers like those girls a little more than me. It's getting hard to ignore the fact that even though racism may seem gone to the economic and political world, racism still exists in my society. Racism still exists in the delves of people's mind. RACISM STILL EXIISTS so long as everyone thinks that a black girl is the LOW standard.
My friend texted that one crush I had for 5 years. She told him what I felt about him.
He responded with, "She's African...her skin is black"

Hey there, I’m not trying to diminish the outrage, but here’s a positive spin. If your crush is so narrow minded that he immediately boils it down to skin color, then well you dodged that bullet. Move on to someone who isn’t a simpleton.
I also have dark skin (I’m male) and have witnessed and felt this sort of nonviolent racism in the dating scene. It was really bad as a teen. College was a relief because people are more broad minded in the 18-24 range especially with higher education. I was finally able to date people of all ethnicities. I would suggest you set your sights on that. Things are radically different after high school graduation (in a good way).
